In this session, we will explore the concept of embodiment in video games. We will examine how games immerse players in their characters’ experiences, using notable examples, and then discuss how developers can leverage this to enhance their projects. I will provide a brief overview of embodiment, along with related theories, including Sigmund Freud’s concept of catharsis and Jacques Lacan’s notion of desire. Together, we will analyse popular games to see how they effectively engage players and enhance the immersive experience. This discussion will help us understand the game elements that captivate players and the psychological effects that accompany that immersion.
